Getting started
Who can start a fundraiser?
Anyone! Whether you're an individual, a family, a school, a workplace or a community group, you can create a fundraiser in support of the Trans Canada Trail.
Do I need permission to start a fundraiser?
Please read our fundraising guidelines when registering as an individual fundraiser or for your event. Once you have registered your fundraiser our team will approve your event within 3 business days. After approval you'll have access to our resources including the ways you can advertise as an event on behalf of Trans Canada Trail.
Is there a minimum or maximum fundraising goal?
No. Set a goal that feels right for you. You can adjust it anytime as your fundraiser grows.
What types of fundraisers are allowed?
Most fundraisers are welcome, including personal challenges, celebrations, group activities and community events. Fundraisers must align with Trans Canada Trail's mission and values and follow our fundraising guidelines.
Can I use the Trans Canada Trail logo?
You can use the In Support of Trans Canada Trail logo on promotional materials for your event, but please share copies with us before they go out, so we can review. Reach out using the contact form for any support you need. If you’re interested in hosting a corporate event, there are additional options for logo usage.
Fundraising & Events
Can I host my fundraiser on a local trail?
Absolutely — many people do! Just make sure you follow local regulations and check with your municipality for permit requirements. Local trail sections are cared for by community partners, not directly by Trans Canada Trail.
Does Trans Canada Trail help organize my event?
We provide templates, tips and guidance, but event planning and hosting is up to you.
Donations & Funds
Where do the funds go?
All funds raised support Trans Canada Trail’s work with communities across the country, from maintenance and accessibility upgrades to trail enhancements and emergency support. Learn more about our mission and priorities.
Are donations tax receipted?
Yes. Eligible donations made through your fundraising page will receive a tax receipt according to Canadian regulations. Other donations made to your fundraiser can be tax receipted according to CRA with appropriate documentation. Please contact donorservices@tctrail.ca for details.
Can I fundraise for a specific trail or community?
Your fundraising supports the entire Trans Canada Trail system. Funds help strengthen and care for trail sections across Canada, rather than going to one specific location.
Safety, Liability & Responsibility
Who is responsible for safety during a fundraiser?
Fundraiser hosts are responsible for planning and running activities safely. This includes permits, insurance and permissions if needed. Please review our fundraising guidelines and agreement when you register.
Is my fundraiser insured by Trans Canada Trail?
No. We don’t provide insurance coverage for third-party fundraising events or activities.
